U.S. has lifted sanctions with several Russian defense companies
The U.S. administration has lifted sanctions against several Russian defense companies accused of collaboration with Iran.
As reported at the site of the Federal Register the U.S. sanctions lifted from three pedpriyaty: Rosoboronexport, Moscow Aviation Institute and the Russian University of Chemical Technology named after Mendeleev.
However ITAR-TASS said that there is another company in respect of which apply unilateral U.S. sanctions - Tula Instrument Design Bureau.
Commenting on this move of the American side, the U.S. State Department spokesman Philip Crowley said that "this reflects the fact that Russia will eventually adapt their approach to Iran and limited arms trade with Tehran."
However, he rejected sounded earlier statements that such a U.S. decision was allegedly made to obtain Moscow's support in adopting a new UN resolution on Iran.
"We felt that Russia shares our concerns about Iran and is prepared to support the arms limitation, provided the rough draft resolution. We felt that we can lift these sanctions, while protecting our interests in non-proliferation" - he said.
The political decision to lift sanctions was adopted by the Administration of Barack Obama on May 12 and took effect from yesterday.
The sanctions against Rosoboronexport U.S. imposed in 2008, accusing it of Russian organizations in that it violates the nonproliferation regime, supplying weapons to Iran. The organization itself and the Russian authorities have repeatedly stated that not violate non-proliferation regime and are in talks to supply to Iran only defensive weapons which do not fall under the limitations of UN.
