Finnish Prime Minister Resigns

Finnish Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen gave to President Tarja Halonen's resignation.
According to Reuters, the head of state accepted the resignation of the government and asked him to continue his discharge their duties until a new Cabinet.
The reason for the resignation of Prime Minister described the upcoming autumn operation on his leg, but, as noted AFPMore likely reason for his departure could be a corruption scandal that erupted in September 2009.
Then, in the Finnish media reported that about 14 years ago, Prime received a bribe from a certain building company in order to obtain construction contracts state Youth Fund. The Fund was established to lease on favorable terms of housing for young people. At that time, Vanhanen served as head of the fund.
Vanhanen himself has denied all the accusations, saying that all of his liaison with the construction company was limited to the delivery of small shipments of rough boards, but as it turned out, they talked about transferring him to a large batch of high quality building material. By analogy with the Watergate scandal, the case was called Finnish media Bordgeyt (from the English board - board).
It is expected that after the resignation of prime minister, his party will continue to work in the center-right coalition, and the new prime minister will be elected on Tuesday, June 29. The most likely successor Vanhanen is 41-year-old Mari Kiviniemi, which currently holds the post of Minister of Administration and the municipalities.
If elected, Kiviniemi head of the Finnish Government, it will hold that office at least until the next parliamentary elections scheduled for April 2011. Thus, all this time, two major post in the country - president and prime minister - would be women.
