In Brussels, said that Iceland join the EU, when Britain and the Netherlands will pay $ 5 billion

Today, 17 June, EU leaders agreed to begin talks on joining the European community in Iceland, but was named one of the main conditions for a refund, which the Netherlands and British investors have lost in connection with the bankruptcy of the Icelandic bank Icesave.
According to Reuters, at a meeting in Brussels, EU leaders declared that promotion of Reykjavik on the path of integration will depend entirely on how fast Iceland will meet its financial obligations.
This is the sum of $ 5 billion, which the British and Dutch authorities reimburse its citizens after bankruptcy Icesave. London and Amsterdam require the return of the money from the Government of Iceland, but it stated that this issue will be resolved by a referendum. The plebiscite showed that the majority of the population oppose the return of this amount.
Note that experts call Iceland more ready to join the EU than other potential members of the community. Reykjavik has led the majority of legislation to EU standards, as well as entered into the Schengen zone, which is why there is no need for border management.
Nevertheless, the Icelanders themselves are unwilling to integrate into the EU. A survey conducted in June by Market and Media Research, showed that almost 60% of Icelanders in favor of withdrawal of the application for EU membership.
Recall Iceland applied to join the EU on July 23 last year. This occurred after the historic vote in the parliament of this country, where deputies decided begin negotiations with Brussels on the integration of the bloc of 27 European countries.
According to the Prime Minister of Iceland Sigurðardóttir Johanna, her country may take from 2,5 to 3,5 years to become a full member of EU.
